ST. LOUIS, U.S. - Albert Pujols has produced the tying and winning run, Kyle McClellan was reinstated after an ordinary start to the game and did well in his first career start and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 on Tuesday.
Pujols did not seem comfortable to bat in the first round of the season, knocking in three double plays in a game and not knocking two hits in 16 at-bats with a solo homer.
The three most valuable player in the National has not really been brilliant against the Pirates, but was effective in hitting a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the game 2-2, then producing the winning run in the seventh with a single against Scott Olsen (0-1).
McClellan, who is part of the rotation starters since the ace Adam Wainwright will miss the rest of the year, gave up two runs and six hits in six innings. A former specialist in the eighth inning also removed seven strikeouts and allowed one base on balls.
Miguel Batista (1-0) took over and allowed one hit and one base on balls in an innings in his first outing of the season.
Ryan Franklin worked the ninth and recorded his first save of the season.
The Pirates' hitters have been rather quiet after Lyle Overbay had slammed a two-run homer in the first.

Manny Ramirez : Retire and Processing Drug Program
Manny Ramirez Retire
It won't take so long for all the Boston Red Sox players to learn that former teammate Manny Ramirez had choosed to retire after he violated Major League Baseball's drug policy for the second time in a year and a half and was facing a 100-game suspension. And During all the Sox's 9-6 victory over the New York Yankees in the home game opener Friday afternoon at Fenway Park, the players were in the dugout when they learned the news including good friend David Ortiz.Ortiz said "It's crazy, man,", "That's the last thing I was expecting for him to retire and go away from this situation. I don't know the details and the situation how everything went down. And I just waiting how the rest of the stuff is going to come out.
"It's really sad, man, when we see a player with that much talent, and with his unbelievable career, and now get him out of the game with negativity."
Manny Ramirez at this season was 1-for-17 with the Tampa Bay Rays, his 1st after signing as a free agent. Ramirez finishes his 19-year career with 555 home runs, 1,831 RBI and a 312 on average.
"The Major League Baseball just notified Manny Ramirez of an issue under The Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,".
"Rather than continue the Program, Manny Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring when he was an active player. And if Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the next day, the process under the Drug Program will be done."
